Super Easy Naan Pizzas, 2 Ways

by roselevit

What could be better than super delicious homemade pizza in less time than it takes to get your Domino’s order? Well, perhaps a coronavirus vaccine, but in the meantime I’ll distract myself with pizza.

And what was that about naan? This amazing puffy flatbread, typically served alongside Indian food, just happens to make an amazing pizza crust. It’s also a lot easier than making your own pizza crust, which despite being delicious is pretty time consuming. Not that that would typically deter me.

I made two different flavors of pizza: plain cheese, and pesto with garlic and kale. However, there are no rules for pizza, so feel free to take the concept of naan pizza and run with it. Here are some of my suggestions:

  • Pizza Margherita: tomato sauce, mozzarella, torn basil leaves
  • Mushroom Pizza: tomato sauce, mixed cheese, sautéed mushrooms
  • Breakfast Pizza: tomato sauce, ground sausage, crumbled bacon, cheddar cheese, fried egg on top
  • Caramelized Onion Pizza: tomato sauce or pesto, caramelized onions, sautéed greens, ricotta
  • Indian-Inspired Pizza: curried tomato sauce, spiced chickpeas, sautéed spinach, paneer or ricotta
  • Veggie-Lover’s Pizza: tomato sauce, roasted broccoli, mushrooms, black olives, jalapeños, green bell peppers, mozzarella

These pizzas are sooooo good. Once you make them the first time, you’ll want to make them again every couple days. I recommend making two per person since one piece of naan isn’t very big. If it’s more than you can eat, you’ll be grateful for the leftovers 😉

Since I think personal pizzas should be, well, personal, I’ve only given a very vague recipe here. It’s really up to you how much sauce, cheese, and toppings you want to add!

Super Easy Naan Pizzas, 2 Ways

Prep Time 5 mins
Cook Time 15 mins
Total Time 20 mins

Ingredients

Cheese Pizza

  • Naan bread
  • Tomato sauce canned or homemade
  • Mozzarella cheese
  • Cheddar cheese freshly shredded
  • Italian seasoning

Pesto, Garlic, and Kale Pizza

  • Naan bread
  • Pesto sauce jarred or homemade
  • Fresh kale torn into large pieces
  • Italian seasoning
  • Mozzarella
  • Fresh garlic cloves peeled and minced
  • Salt to taste
  • Butter or oil for sautéing the kale

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350º F. If you have a flat roasting rack, position it on a baking sheet. If you don't have one, don't worry about it.

Cheese Pizza

  • Spread each piece of naan with 2-3 spoonfuls of tomato sauce. Top with a generous amount of shredded cheddar cheese, then add small torn pieces of mozzarella. Sprinkle lightly with Italian seasoning.
  • Add to the baking sheet and bake for 10-15 minutes, until the cheese is melted and the crust is slightly crisp. Turn the oven to high broil and broil for 1-2 minutes, monitoring it closely, until the cheese bubbles. Remove from the oven, slice, and serve.

Pesto, Garlic, and Kale Pizza

  • Heat some butter or oil in a small skillet over medium-high heat. Add the garlic, about one clove per pizza, and stir constantly until aromatic. Add the kale and some salt and sauté until soft and wilted, a few minutes more.
  • Spread each piece of naan with 2-3 spoonfuls of pesto. Top with torn chunks of mozzarella cheese and a sprinkle of Italian seasoning. Arrange the sautéed kale on top.
  • Add to the baking sheet and bake for 10-15 minutes, until the cheese is melted and the crust is slightly crisp. Remove from the oven, slice, and serve.
